Social Media for Artists with Kerry Anne MacDougall @ Garrick Conference Room

View full details

Panelists:

Kerry Anne MacDougall - Speaker and Entrepreneur

Finding success in the music industry can come from a variety of sources, one for certain being social media. While for some, this success can be viewed as luck, others have come to understand how to work at it, build a following, create a conversation and expand their careers. Social media is serious business; known as one of the most competitive industries to break into and remain relevant, it’s critical for artists to understand how to find their voice, share their stories, and really stand out online. If the only time social media is used is to ask for something (votes, donations, attendance, downloads etc.), artists and the greater industry will do nothing more than contribute to the noise, missing out on the opportunity to truly engage, connect, and develop an emotionally charged audience. When an artist builds trust with their online audience, it’s a powerful thing. It creates new fans, enhances loyalty with current fans, and expands networks – which is all valuable in growing a brand and more importantly, remaining relevant and exciting. Join Kerry Anne MacDougall for an engaging and enlightening conversation on using social media to grow your brand and create an emotionally charged audience. Learn how to find your online voice, create meaningful content and grow your audience.   2:00-5:00pm on Friday, October 14, 2016. Garrick Theatre, 16-20 Church Street, Bonavista. Workshop taking place upstairs in Conference Room (Enter through Garrick Annex Pub and take stairs located to the right of the bar at the end of the hall).

Destroy The Stage with Luther Mallory @ The Garrick Theatre Conference Room

View full details

Panelists:

Luther Mallory - Live Music Producer, Performance Coach

Saturday afternoon will feature a session led by Luther Mallory, collaborator in the Juno Master Class. The purpose of the Destroy The Stage (DTS) Workshop is to challenge comfort zones of artists and push them past self-consciousness, where the real truth in performance exists, and where the audience begins to connect. This workshop is about participation, engagement, and breaking down the fear wall. The workshop begins with a conversation about opportunity and expectation: specifically, performance fear, and how this negative mindspace affects their chance of achieving success in the music industry. The question is posed: Is your fear of rejection greater than your desire to succeed? The artists involved, including Luther, form a circle, and the stage becomes the middle of the circle. Artists are challenged to perform inside the circle with no backing instrumentation, just vocals. They are thrown into new discomfort; a vulnerable and impactful environment. Luther excels at knowing how to work with different psychological needs of each artist. Can we admit, as performers, that our own fear and judgment limits our ability to perform at our full potential on stage? The audience freaks us out and we criticize ourselves constantly. Destroy The Stage is a unique and intense performance workshop focused on stage psychology and how to control the fear/judgment obsessed mind of the artist while on stage. At Destroy The Stage, everyone performs in The Circle, acapella, surrounded by their peers. Luther walks the group through principles and techniques of breaking down the fear wall, and connecting with new levels of comfort and ability on stage. "Show goers become true fans when you become fearless enough to show them who you really are on stage," says Luther. "That's what we're after in the DTS workshop." "It was a spiritual, artistic, experience." – Andee, Universal Artist "We saw the transformations right in front of us." – Vel Omazic, Canada's Music Incubator "Luther has played a pivotal role in my development as a performer." – Kami Van Halst, Van Halst "Prepare to have your mind blown." – Chris Hummel, The Dream Boats LINKS www.luthermalloryproductions.com   2:00-5:00pm on Saturday, October 15, 2016. Garrick Theatre, 16-20 Church Street, Bonavista. Workshop taking place upstairs in Conference Room (Enter through Garrick Annex Pub and take stairs located to the right of the bar at the end of the hall).
